The research project 'IES Austria - Integrating the Energy System' develops a modular process to ensure the interoperability of data exchanges in smart energy systems. IES provides a common understanding and a unified framework to develop and reuse solutions for data exchange: interoperability instead of proprietary solutions!

IES draws from more than 15 years of experience in the healthcare sector, where interoperability of systems has long been reached. The methodology has matured over many years in the healthcare sector, starting with digital X-ray images (radiology) in 1999, and by today achieved wide acceptance in the US, Europe and East Asia.

Powered by the Climate & Energy Fund within the framework of the programme Energy Research 2015. The project is part of the e!MISSON program's 2nd call funded via the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund (KLIEN), managed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) under contract number 853693. The consortium is run by Dr. Angela Berger, Technology Platform Smart Grids Austria.

Connectathon Energy 2019

The Connectathon Energy 2019, taking place from the 28th until the 31st of January in Vienna was a complete success. With about double the number of active participating companies and research institutes and a well visited workshop and symposium the message was clear: Interoperability is a key factor for future energy development and people can clearly see and understand its importance.

First Connectathon Energy at the 2018 IHE-Europe Connectathon

16 - 20 April 2018 - The Hague/The Netherlands

The IES project team successfully completed pilot interoperability test sessions at the 2018 IHE-Europe Connectathon in The Hague/The Netherlands.

The IES Gazelle test management instance and all seven components from four different vendors taking part in this pilot test session were successfully set up and tested.

Alongside the testing activities, our team engaged with high ranking delegations in lively discussions on experiences, strategies and next steps towards interoperable smart energy systems.
